AQUATICS

Aquatic physical therapy (APT) uses water to minimize stress on your body so you can move more easily and with less pain.

APT may be used for patients who are:

  • Not allowed full weight bearing but need to work on walking
  • Recovering from surgery
  • Experiencing acute low back pain and cannot tolerate standing and walking
  • Athletes need to work on running or jumping but unable to tolerate high impact activities
  • And more!

AQUATICS

An aquatic program is designed by one of SRPT’s physical therapists as part of an individualized treatment plan to achieve specific goals.

The benefits of aquatic physical therapy:

  • Buoyancy: Water provides assistive support while encouraging upright posture with greater ease. Varying water depths allows participates to offload specific percentages of their body weight.
  • Hydrostatic Pressure: the natural properties of water reduce swelling and inflammation.
  • Resistance: using the resistance jet or exercising through water creates added resistance to boost strength, endurance, and flexibility.
  • Sensory Stimulation: Water assists in increasing body awareness and improving circulation.
  • Water Temperature: warm water relaxes joints and helps to increase range of motion.
